Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some to the most common questions people have when learning about Retailbound.

How can Retailbound help an established company?

Many established consumer product manufacturers hit a wall at certain key points in their business, often when all indications pointed to business being “on a roll.” Symptoms begin appearing such as the loss of key programs, new competitors, less “face-time” with retail buyers, or high employee turn-over.  It can seem easier to just ignore these issues and hope that they go away. Exploring new distribution, line extensions, and organizational changes can seem daunting and manufacturers often doubt their ability to evaluate these options given their existing workload and limited resources. Retailbound functions as an outsourced executive team that will diagnose issues, recommend and implement solutions, explore growth opportunities, and fine-tune organizational strategies while our clients continue with the business at hand.

How does Retailbound differ from other retail consultants?

Retailbound is one of the few boutique consulting firms that our key principals have experience on both sides of the buyer’s desk. Our key principals are also personally involved with all client projects and are available to client team members. Key project deliverables will never be delegated or “farmed out” to other parties. Our clients have told us that we become long-term “trusted advisors” to them. Retailbound takes the long view rather than trying to push short-term, pre-packaged “Band Aids” that may not be in our client’s best interest.

How can Retailbound help a start-up?

Start-up companies can spend tremendous financial and emotional resources on ill-conceived advice. Retailbound offers early-stage business coaching and planning to our start-up clients that will make the best use of their resources from the start. We provide business “road-maps” for start-ups as well as business plan development, marketing, publicity, and product merchandising services.

Does Retailbound work on contingency or commission?

Retailbound charges an hourly fee. For larger projects, Retailbound works on a flat fee, unlimited access basis. That way, a “meter” is never running when our clients need our assistance and there are no financial “surprises” throughout the term of our work.

Will Retailbound sell my company’s products to retailers?

Retailbound is not a sales agency and we do not represent our client companies’ products. We instead help our clients in other ways such as improving their levels of service to retailers, finding new channel of distribution, and managing their product marketing and merchandising.
